Traffic

The morning commute was brought to a standstill in many parts of the metro area Tuesday after a winter storm blanketed the area with several inches of snow.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for all of southeast Michigan from 3 a.m. to noon Tuesday, saying 5 to 8 inches of snow was expected to fall in the area. The heavy, wet snow made for treacherous road conditions and caused numerous accidents.

Interstate 94 was closed in both directions west of Detroit because of multiple accidents, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation. The closure extended from around 8 Mile Road to around 20 Mile Road.
