1. My dear, no legitimate company funds or offers to give you a check up front. You perform the work and then they pay you whatever promised fee/reimbursement you agreed upon when accepting the assignment. Key word here is reimburse. You have to spend money to make money in this industry.

  2. CR – this one looks really fishy, in fact I am pretty sure it’s scam, because legitimate companies will not contact you out of blue unless you applied.

  4. Has anyone done business with Beyond Marketing Group? They say that they pay $400 upfront and then you use the balance of the money for expenses. This sounds like a scam to me.

  5. I did some mystery shopping for YMCAs with this company and got paid. But, I do agree any check issued before work completed and asking for western union transfer has to be a scam. Please be careful/
I dont know if anyone has worked for this company before or not. I got an email from them and never replied back and then they sent me a check and a letter. I am supposed to cash the check, take out 200 bucks and then send the rest via western union. I feel like this is a scam because they are giving me the money upfront rather than waiting for my mystery shopper report. I have not cashed the check and dont plan on it until I get more information. More likely than not I wont go through with this. I would greatly appreciate some information. Thanks.
6. 😮 ITS A STRAIGHT SCAM I JUST WENT TO THE BANK AND THAT CHECK IS NOT GOOD…THEY WILL BE CALLING THE POLICE AND REPORTING THESE PPL! 🙁

  7. Hi All,

I have done dozens of shops through Kern Scheduling and have always been paid on time. Maybe the scheduler you are working with just isn’t very good…..

  8. I did several shops for Checkup Marketing in January. They owe me $300+ and have not paid me, and they are not responding to emails, voice mails, or faxes. 🙁

  9. I work with Kernscheduling and have not ever had a problem. The scheduler is professional and courteous, and many of the shops are high quality, offering $45 worth of food on restaurant shops.

Try them and decided for yourself.

I would not recommend Kern Scheduling. The scheduler that I had was constantly sending assignments that were already expired and then wanting them done at the last minute. If you have an issue with the scheduler and you contact the the CEO you will find that there are many excuses given, but no results. Stay away from this company
Thanks for the warning! I am receiving shopping invitations from KSS.
I have done many shops with KSS including BJ’s Restaurants, and have had no problems. I get paid immediately, and have no problems with schedulers. Sorry you haven’t had good luck
Thanks.
Do not cash the check. I recently got a similar check (unsolicited) from a company named Consumer Research Center Inc. It all looked very real. They said to keep 300 for my self, wire 1800 through W Union, 150 was for the wire fee and spend 150 at either K-Mart Walmart or Best Buy. I have contacted the back and they said the FBI was involed concerning this particular scam. They also asked me to send them what I received. Hopefully they get prints or something to nab these people! The name of the company is real and the address of it matches up, but the actual company is a phone company. The credit union drawn on is real and the address on it is correct too. The check looks extremely real. A big red flag was the urgency where they wanted me to do it within 48 hours. It’s a red flag, because it shows they want you to do it before you find out from your bank that the check is bad. Of course, what they are after is the 1800 dollars they want me to wire.

  12. please do not try to cash any checks from this company they are a scam I am glad I found out before cashing check they will send you a letter along with a check with a list of places to shop along with amount to be spent at each place of business and ask you to send receipts to them but phone number to contact them to verify check and have funds released is bogus number

  15. Hello !!! Has anyone worked of JKS Mystery shopping and if you had do the pay on time and how frequent they assign tasks to do ??? I have a regular 8hr job and i would like to do something on the side. Please i will appreciate the info.

  16. ICCDS is doing Harris Teeter shops.
Does anyone know the mystery shopping company that took over the Harris Teeter account after Bare lost it?
17. Oh no. I just came home from doing my first shop for Channel Watch. Should have checked this website out first. I was getting a little suspicious since their toll free number is not in service and an email I sent to the job scheduler came back undeliverable. The shop was easy and I was in the area doing another shop, so no big loss. I’m more concerned about giving my SSN to them if their not legit. I think this is going to be my first and last shop for them. Do you folk think it’s safe to send them my W-9?

  18. Hi, I joined international service check 2 months ago.
They don’t pay a lot but so far I have always been paid (travel expenses included when it is justified).

I din’t get paid only one time bu tit was my fault(I ordered the wrong item).

    So far, so good -))

  21. Has anyone actually got paid by AQ services. I did an assignment in Mar 2010, but till now I have not receive any payment? I have sent several emails to them but no reply as well. 🙁

    • Hi Jenny! Did you finally received any reimbursed from AQ Services? I know your problem was in 2010 but I.ve got the same problem but in Spain.
I Would really aprecciate any answer. Thanks in advamve!

  22. Homeless,
Whatever company you choose, check with BBB.com. it’s your safest bet not to give your SS to a bunch of crooks. SO far I have used Market force, Corporate research and Behond Hello. I was paid as promised, no hassle, with MFI and CRI. I should get my first check with Behond Hello next month, so we’ll see.You wont get rich with mystery shopping, but definetely better than nothing. CRI pays the fastest. Best of luck!

  23. I have nearly applied for 1000 jobs in 6 months since I have been laid off.. I saw an add on career builder a week ago about this mystery shopping bit.. I really can’t afford to loose much more.. I am already living out of my car.. if this mystery shokpping is legit I want to try it.. does anyone know anything about shoppers critique international? If so ur help will be awesome thank you and god bless

  24. Gfk Pays most of the time but you get alot of threats for non-payment if they say things were not completed properly. That has happened a couple of times. For their Best Buy Audits they want you to spend at least 12 hours. This takes 2 days. The pay is 130 but does not include travel or data entry. The date entry usually takes up to 3 more hours at home on your computer. This can sometimes break down to 5 or 6 dollars an hour and can be quite stressful plus taking pictures and sending those as well. This a full audit so the pay seems sparce. Alot of people quit and the ones that stick around for the abuse are in dire need of money. This company knows this and takes full advantage. I can only imagine that their fee is at least 2000 per shop.

  25. I just read about a dozen articles all saying ANY company who SENDS you a CHECK to cash (say at walmart) and says you”ll get to keep a portion, ITS a SCAMMMM!!! the check bounced and the retailer comes after YOU!!!!!

  26.
I got a check from global survey group for 1995.00 they want me to send money threw western union and secret shop at walmart and jcpennys. my profit would be 250.00. Is this a scam dont want to deposit check into my account if its not legit?
27. Is it safe to give your social security number to some of these trusted websites. The companies people have said are known to pay is it safe?

  28.
Tonia – that is absolutely a check cashing SCAM. DO NOT cash the check!
Thank you! I also noticed that it had a Canadian Stamp on the envelope. Thanks to the person who posted that little tip! I found this site to be very helpful.

  29. I was issued a check for $2,981.50 to do assignments for mystery shopping. Here is where I feel it is a scam: The letter is from Shop and Check Consultants(171 W 29th Street,Floor3,New York,NY 10001) and the check is from The Renaissance On Turtle Creek (Operating Account,3523 MCKINNEY AVE STE 214, Dallas,TX 75204) (which turns out to be a Condominium Place with a different Address 3225 Turtle Creek, Dallas, TX 75219)Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I have not cashed the check. On a side note: the date on the check coincides with a very important date to me. thank you in advance

  30. Does anyone know the mystery shopping company that took over the Harris Teeter account after Bare lost it?

  31.
Have you heard anything about Corporate Research International for Mystery Shopping. Thanks
I’ve done work with them, and they’re great!

  32. Spies in Disguise is a great company. I’ve done two shops for them, and they paid me as scheduled!

  33. 🙁 I just got screwed by DIRECT SCHEDULING SERVICES AND MELISSA BENSON. If you want to get paid do not shop for them, shop for a good company.

  34. Has anyone experienced difficulty with answering “level 4” questions? I have been on that level for over an hour…are they trick questions?! I have answered every question according to the text..I’ve even had my husband give it a try haha…it’s driving me nuts!

  35. well, I dont know if this is useful to anyone on this site im from canada. I have been mystery shopping for

  36. I got a check from global survey group for 1995.00 they want me to send money threw western union and secret shop at walmart and jcpennys. my profit would be 250.00. Is this a scam dont want to deposit check into my account if its not legit?

  38. Hi there, I’ve been mystery shopping for a while but I’m finding it hard to find how to mystery shop more companies because many of the sites, though they’re clients are located in ireland, don’t do mystery shops in Ireland.

Can anyone tell me any mystery shop companies that will do work in Ireland?

  39. It was fabulous working with this co. although I think thy’ve merged into bare international now. They paid great, on time, mileage and supplied me with all the materials I needed! I WISH they had more video shops! I’d work for them full time if I could!!

  40. PLEASE….PLEASE… IF YOU LIKE TO GET PAID ON TIME AND CORRECTLY, DO NOT… I MEAN DO NOT…. WORK FOR CHANNELWATCH.NET **** CONSIDER YOURSELF WARNED*****

  41. Kim – It’s SCAM. Don’t cash the check. Mystery shopping companies do not pay you until you finish the shop for them.

  42. I wish I’d read the messages about Channel Watch before I accepted an assignment from them last September – which I STILL have not been paid for. Email and phone calls to them fall on deaf ears. I’m wondering if they are even a legitimate company…..

  43. Anyone done shopping for BMA? Just received a check yesterday and a list of companies to shop at. Don’t want to waste my time if it is a scam. I’m a stay at home Mommy just looking for some part time work and extra cash. Anyone?

  44. im new to the mystery shopping. is shoppers critique international safe? it wants me to put my social security # in to sign up is this normal and safe to do? has anyone done this with this company?

  45. We have also not been paid from CHANNEL WATCH – AS THE OTHER MESSAGE SAYS – WORK AT YOUR OWN PERIL

  46. PLEASE CONSIDER YOURSELF WARNED. .. THEY PAY ONE MONTH & SOMETIMES 2 MONTHS LATE, AND THIER SYSTEM CHEATS YOU OUT OF YOUR MONEY, AND ONCE AGAIN.. DONT TRY TO CASH YOUR CHECK..BECAUSE THEY SOMETIMES DONT EVEN HAVE THE CASH IN THEIR ACCOUNTS TO PAY YOU.. ASK ME HOW I KNOW.. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.. GO THE OTHER WAY… YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

  47. I just did about 15 Sun National Banks for them & I am located in New Jersey. They seem legit . I am waiting for my check…. I will let you know if they are a scam or not.

  48. Hey Folks!

Does anyone know or remember how long it takes for BES and California Marketing to reimburse for completed shops?

  49. After reading this website and helpful comments from others I’m considering mystery shopping. However I do have some concerns about giving my personal info over the web when signing up with these companies should I be? And is it necessary to be certified in order to be considered for a shop? What are the benefits of being certified if any?

    Thank you,
    Rose

  50. All – today I received a check in the mail from a company called A Step Above Service Evaluations. They ask that I shop 7 places. Two of which were Western Union Transfer and the other was MoneyGram transfer. I have been reading the posts and I believe this to be a scam. Has anyone ever pursued legal actions?

I say “If it is too good to be true, it is!”

  51. Hi Stephanie, thank you very much for sharing your experience. Very helpful! Hope you enjoy doing paid surveys too! :cheer:

  52. I don’t know how exactly I stumbled across this web page, but it sure has helped.

I just started mystery shopping like a month and a half ago but have had some good fortune with the following companies:

    – Kern Scheduling Services: They are a scheduling company so they are linked with numerous mystery shopping companies. Filling out one application is like applying to SEVERAL different companies
    – Shoppers’ Critique: They are a reputable company I have enjoyed working with. Their pay out usually comes in a little less than a month
    – Jancyn: They are also a decent company with slightly less than a month pay out
    – Secret Shopping Services: Their pay out is at the end of the following month so it can be anywhere from one to almost two months to be paid
    – BARE International: They average about a month as well to paying you back but they only cut checks, no Paypal payments
    – Corporate Research International: They are legit, plus they have one of the fastest pay outs, averaging about two weeks. I have very much enjoyed working with them 🙂
    – Quality Assessment Mystery Shoppers: They cut checks as well but they are cut immediately. I completed three shops for them on 9/8 and received my check on 9/16! 😉

Those are just the best companies I’ve found so far, but of course, it always depends on if they have any assignments available in your area. Hope that helps!

  53. I did a shop for Mintell on 9/10/2009 and received a check on the 18th that was dated the 16th. The check was good. I enjoyed the shop and will shop for them again.

    Thanks
    Tammy

  54. Just checked the Quest for Best website for the info/assignment I received. Seemed suspicious to me. Apparently there is a scam in which someone is using their company info and sending cashier’s checks for ‘work’ and a wire transfer. (Note: Quest for Best website is aware and has a scam notification on their home page.) Just wanted to let anyone out there know that the company is legit, but the scammers are using it to their advantage. DO NOT CASH THE CASHIER’S CHECK!!!

  55. I just want to make sure Theatrical Entertainment Services is legitimate before I fill out a W9 with my social security number on it. Thanks!

  56. Hi,
I’m doing some STEP tests with a mystery shopping company MQS (plz reverse these letters).
I really need the work, as they have many local restaurants, and stores. There are 7 or so STEP tests that need to be completed before they’ll even consider me and they only allow me to do the test twice daily. I must successfully complete one step before I can advance to the next. Each STEP must be completed with 25/25. Can someone please, please help me with the tests. I’ve only made it to level 2 so far.
    Many thanks again!!

  57. Hi Rachel, I think it could be that the scammer is using California Marketing Specialists’s name to run the scam. Thanks for the heads up!

  58. Do not work with California Marketing Specialists! THANK GOD I googled secret shopping scams! They said they’d send me a $3000 check to shop Macy’s and Money Gram. There’s no way in hell.

  59. Does anyone know what company does mystery shopping for Harris Teeter now that Bare lost the contract?

  60. Before I even started I was getting charged $1.95 and then $7 for another company that i dont even remember signing up for. DO NOT GIVE OUT YOUR ACCOUNT. THEY WILL SIGN U UP FOR SURPLUS SUPPLIER, FAVOR CITY, NATIONAL TRIP, SURPLUS SUPPLIES. Even if u tell them that yr only interested in one they’ll say you get a trial period. But they dont tell u that they are charging an initial fees for all the other ones that they signed u up for. It’s dangerous. So warning to everyone, it’s a scam and cancel asap b4 anything. plus, once you do start you could get checks that are fake and they could take all your money in your account. So beware. I learn to get a real job, it’s legit. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Good luck ppl. I hope this helped.

  61. Hi Dorothy,

I don’t think shopper select has surveys, and if they charge you a fee for registration, I think they probably will just give you a list of mystery shopping companies in your area..

  62. Has anyone taken a survey or done Mystery Shopping for Shoppers Select. I answered an ad in our local paper for Mystery Shoppers. They want $1.95 to register you. Is this legite? Thank you

  63. :woohoo:
There are some mystery shopping companies like "a top shop" that ask for my driver’s license number and insurance information. Is that legitimate?
Danielle, Quick word DO NOT SEND PERSONAL INFO TO ANYONE . IT’S A SCAM!!!
GOT ONE FROM FRONTLINE TOOK IT TO BANK AND WENT THROUGH MANAGER WHO CHECKED IT OUT AT NO COST TO ME. SAVED A BUNDLE

  64.
Hello,

  68. Hi ms starr, sorry I can’t help you on this. I just signed up a couple of companies (I don’t even remember which ones..), and never heard from them…I figured paid surveys is much easier. 😮 …I would suggest you went to the MSPA website (http://mysteryshop.org), they have lot of information and discussion board.

  69. can you please tell me the the mystery shopper company you went with and secondly have you heard of shoppers critique international before?are the real or scam.

  70. I just received a check from Pacific Staffing Agency for $3,850. They wanted me to wire $3,425 back. They must be kidding. I have read online that others have been scammed by them. Keep a watch for these clowns.

  71. Do you have any information on http://shadowshopper.com
Also, I know of a very good secrete shopper website that is legitamate.
It is http://Shoppershotline.com I have made money from scanning my groceries, etc every week and from my internet usage. They give you points like http://mysurvey.com does, which can be converted to cash once you get at least 625 points. 625points=$10.00. I would like to know if shadowshopper similar or how different, and if it is scam or not.

  72. I’m trying to collect a bad debt from May, 2008 from Channel Watch. I was talking with someone through December, 2008, but seems the fax number and phone number have been disconnected. Anyone know if they are still in business.

  73. I have been doing mystery shopping for around 15 years and only had a bad experience as far as pay goes when I had to book some Holiday Inn Reservations online and I could not get a refund.

  74. Cheryl,

You are suppose to send 3000.00 to someone in UK? Don’t do it – it’s scam! Don’t give your bank and other information to anyone! Hope it’s not late!

  75. I received a check for 3450.00 from JM Ridgeway. I know it has to be a scam. I am supposed to evaluate Western Union and send 3000.00 to someone in UK. Hmmmm. I am fearful they will get my bank # and clean me out. Does anyone know about them. gracious

  76. I GOT A CHECK FOR 2830.98 WITH A LETTER WITH A WALMART&MC DONALDS AND OLD NAVY LOGOS UNDER AQ SERVICES THEN I FOUND THIS WEBSITE WITH GOOD INFO THANKS. 😀

  77. 😛 I rec’d a check from frontline Shoppers Channel for $3947.00 too. Why is it a scam and what do they gain from it?

  78. I received a letter and check today from Frontline Shoppers Channel Inc. in the amount of $3947.00. I knew right away it was a scam. First clue was no return address, second it was not sent by first class mail. The stamp was Canadian. Third the letter contained several misspelled words. Be careful out there and remember nothing is free.

  79. I’ve seen some mystery shopping companies that ask for my DL# and my auto insurance information. Is that legitimate?

  80. There are some mystery shopping companies like “a top shop” that ask for my driver’s license number and insurance information. Is that legitimate?

  81. Hi CLB,

Whoever sent you the check, it’s is SCAM! Mystery shopping companies would NEVER pay in advance for work, usually you have to perform the work first, and submit a report, then get paid.

Also remember, scammers usually run the scam under legitimate companies name.

So DO NOT CASH THE CHECK!

  82. To: William Lawrence, TC, and Shirley Jones (and anyone else with any info) — What company sent you the bad check? I just got a check from Myers Industries (from “Myers Employment Agency” to do work for “Datatron”). Anyone know anything about this people??? Thanks.

  83. My mother recieved a check to do 3 shops form what we thought was shadowshopper, but after going to there website
I found out that there is a scam going on where a group of people have sent checks out in there namen which bounced.

  84. 1. I don’t give my SS# to mystery shop companies until I do a few shops for them. To bypass this on the sign up type in your last four numbers like this 000-00-1234.
    2. Do not ever under any circumstance cash a check for anyone or a business! They say you are doing a shop and get to keep a portion of the check or they will pay you after the cashing of the check! Do not do it…it’s a scam! I have seen these checks and what they require you to do is hardly anywork…just cashing the check. Be leery of anything you receive in the mail from a MS company. YOU are the one that has to apply and get the job-not them coming to you!

  85. i received a 5000.00 check that was no good now i have to pay it pack to the bank what can they do to me i don’t have the money to give them? :sigh:

  86. I have been doing
mystery Shopping for over 10 years & I really enjoy it. It is a lot of fun & it helps companies to stay on track.

  87. This is a great website.

I’m hoping for an R&D list.

I mean, we American consumers should be allowed to get involved in inventing the products we purchase…

    Sigh

  88. Do you know any particular mystery shopping company that contracts for travellers/ cruises? I saw one advertised at a local newspapaer some time ago, but don’t remember the name.

  89. :sigh: I received a check that was counterfit. What do I do I can’t afford to do this. I owe the bank $100.00 by friday.

  90. I am also curious as to how much you can earn, yearly, utilizing all of these options. Please get back to me! 🙂

  91. your site is incredible very accurate to what I have experienced. I was wondering if you could pos your 2007 earnings for each opportunity you do I.e surveys, ptr, ptd, and mystery shopping. I made $75 in Austin tc offline irs research study 2 hours.

  92. Watch out for Kern Scheduling! Their schedulers aren’t very well trained and often drop the ball in being the “go-between” with their clients. Careful that your pay isn’t delayed because you’re offered a shop for a project that expired with their client months ago (actually happened).

  93. Hi mngrandma2,

Most mystery shopping companies will ask you to provide SS#, since they might need to report your earnings to IRS and send you a 1099 form if you make over $600 a year.

If you have more questions, I suggest you visit MSPA website (http://mysteryshop.org/shoppers/), there are lot of good info there, and a message board you can ask questions.

    Good luck and Best regards!

  94. i signed up with customer 1st and they ask for my social security #. I have 3 mystery shops that i can do and I would like to know if this is standard to ask for my social security #?
