The Alice in Wonderland Syndrome is a condition that causes people to experience distortions in time, space, and their own bodies. It is named after the Lewis Carroll book, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, in which the protagonist experiences similar distortions. The syndrome can be caused by migraines, epilepsy, or other neurological conditions. It can also be induced by certain drugs or alcohol. Symptoms typically last for a few minutes or hours.
People with the Alice in Wonderland Syndrome may feel like they are shrinking or growing, their surroundings are changing size or shape, time is speeding up or slowing down, or they are seeing things that are not really there. In some cases, people may have hallucinations. The syndrome is generally not harmful and most people recover from it without any lasting effects.
